Wrist-Mountable Flexible OLED Screen Developed for the U.S. Army

The Universal Display Corporation (UDC) said that it managed to create a 4.3-inch, 320 x 240 OLED screen and deliver several devices to the US Army where specialists will carry out "military evaluation testing".

The wrist-mountable OLED screens were presented at the U.S. Army's C4ISR On-the-Move testing environment in September 2010 at Fort Dix, New Jersey. Specialists who performed research, development and acquisition investment decision gave the invention positive feedback. 

Each of the eight devices features a QVGA full-color, full-motion AMOLED display that makes use of amorphous-Silicon (a-Si) TFT backplanes. It would be interesting to note that the latter were made on thin metallic foil by LG Display, informs OLED-Display. 

The UDC then created the front planes on top. The company used its high-efficiency, full-color PHOLED technology and materials. This technology allows the device to consume less energy. The gadgets provide a number of advanced communications features stuffed into a thin and rugged housing that can be easily attached to a person's wrist.
